The seawall provides an important function for the slipway as well as protection for the port management depot area and the Fisherman's Co-Op building that are currently being redeveloped as part of the Apollo Bay Harbour Redevelopment project.
The old seawall has reached the end of its serviceable life, with assessments confirming it was at risk of failure - thank you for your service old seawall.
The upgrades include a new seawall being built in front (seaward side) of the existing wall around the harbour slipway yard.
The new seawall will be a stacked gravity block design, built from precast concrete blocks arranged in vertical tiers.
The new design has a 50-year lifespan and is commonly used for coastlines, ports, and quay walls where space is limited and a steep or vertical face is required.
Foundations for the new seawall are now poured on which the gravity blocks will be arranged.
