The January 2026 flash flood event had major impacts on walking trails near Lorne in the Great Otway National Park, with bridges and walkways washed away or severely damaged.
For public safety, some of these trails are closed for now.
We are working with Parks Victoria to undertake on-ground assessments and finalise plans to repair infrastructure as soon as possible.
We recognise that the local trail networks are a key driver of visitation to Lorne and surrounding areas.
We are prioritising popular sites and will be putting in alternate routes where feasible to reopen trails quicker while damaged infrastructure is replaced.
In some areas, this includes complete replacement of trails and bridges which were washed away and will take some time due to complex planning and approval requirements.
