Great Ocean Walk and Hike-in Campsites

The Great Ocean Walk is one of Australia’s most iconic coastal hikes, but it is not one fixed itinerary. It is a trail you can shape around your own pace, time and sense of adventure.

Stretching from Torquay along the Great Ocean Road and deep into the Otways hinterland, The Great Otway National Park is shaped by contrast. Rugged coastline gives way to tall forests, fern gullies, waterfalls and winding trails beneath towering eucalypts.

The park is home to some of Victoria’s most recognised landscapes and experiences. Walk sections of the Great Ocean Walk between Apollo Bay and the Twelve Apostles, explore the historic Cape Otway Lightstation, or follow walking tracks through rainforest, coastal heath and mountain forest. 

Along the coast, surf beaches, rockpools, cliffs and headlands sit within landscapes shaped by the wild Southern Ocean. Inland, waterfalls including Erskine Falls, Triplet Falls and Hopetoun Falls flow through the forest, while campgrounds and hike-in campsites provide access to longer stays across the park.

Parks Victoria and GORCAPA both manage different parts of the Great Otway National Park.

GORCAPA manages the southern and coastal areas of the Great Otway National Park. This includes popular destinations such as:

• Erskine Falls visitor area, and Jamieson Creek and Allenvale campgrounds near Lorne

• Maits Rest visitor area and Blanket Bay campground near Apollo Bay

• Melba Gully visitor area and Johanna Beach campground south of Lavers Hill

• Great Ocean Walk.

Parks Victoria manages the hinterland areas of the Great Otway National Park. This includes:

• Hammond Road campground near Anglesea

• Big Hill campground north of Lorne

• Lake Elizabeth visitor area near Forrest

• Triplet Falls and Hopetoun Falls near Beech Forest.
