We're partnering with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Parks Victoria and Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation to deliver an iconic new coastal trail along the Great Ocean Road.

The Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail will be a nationally significant multi-day walk, allowing visitors to experience sweeping coastal views, towering eucalypt forest, waterfalls, and hidden gorges.

The proposed trail traverses Gadubanud Country along the Otway coast, boasting breathtaking views from new lookouts and includes new campsites, boardwalks, river crossings and day visitor areas.

Consisting of both new and existing trails, the proposed 76km route covers coastal locations from Fairhaven through to Kennett River.

The trail will provide a diverse range of walking options and experiences from short loops, day walks to multi-day experiences.

With feasibility studies completed, designing, planning and approvals are now underway.

Project update - April 2026

Upgrades are underway on a 4.7-kilometre walking trail between Wye River and Kennett River.
This popular section of track will eventually become part of day five of the proposed Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail that continues to progress through detailed design and approvals.
Works happening between Wye River and Kennett River include track stabilisation, pruning and laying of new gravel, with completion by late June.
Earlier this year, new signs were also installed to make wayfinding easier for a safer experience along this section of trail.
