National Parks

The iconic coast and parks along the Great Ocean Road are so special and so important to Victoria, that the Government established the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) as the dedicated parks manager.
Historically, fragmented land management has hindered a coherent approach to addressing the challenges of high and increasing visitation, environmental processes, and impacts of climate change along this important and treasured stretch of the Victorian coast.
Victoria’s National Parks are protected by the National Parks Act and its conservation obligations. Nothing about how National Parks are protected is changing.
Transfer of management responsibility for National Parks within the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks has transferred from Parks Victoria to GORCAPA in stages, which include:
- Port Campbell National Park on 1 August 2024
- Bay of Islands Coastal Park on 1 November 2024
- Marine Parks on 1 March 2025 - including:
- Point Danger Marine Sanctuary
- - Point Addis Marine National Park
- Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary
- Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary
- Twelve Apostles Marine National Park
- The Arches Marine Sanctuary
- Merri Marine Sanctuary
- Great Otway National Park on 1 July 2025
National Parks for which the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority has been appointed as the parks manager are listed in the Great Ocean Road and Environs Protection Act 2020.
