Plan Your Visit
  • Getting there:  Departing from Melbourne: Approximately ~400 km along the Great Ocean Road.

The park lies beyond the more-visited sections of the Great Ocean Road, making it a peaceful destination for those willing to venture off the beaten path. If you’re planning a long weekend getaway, you’ll find a range of accommodation options at Great Ocean Road Parks to suit every type of traveler.

  • Dog-Friendly Areas: Dogs on leash are welcome at Sandy Cove near Murnanes Bay. Please stay clear of the stretch between high tide and the dunes—it’s nesting ground for the vulnerable Hooded Plover.

  • Swimming and safety: The park’s beaches are not patrolled and are not recommended for swimming. Coastal conditions can be unpredictable. Always follow water safety guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.

Explore Responsibly

As with all natural environments, hazards can arise. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Respect local wildlife and sensitive habitats, especially dune‑zones of nesting birds (e.g., hooded plover) and stay on marked paths.

  • Before you set out, check the weather and sea conditions. Download the Beachsafe and Vic Emergency apps to stay updated and be prepared to respond quickly in case of an emergency.

  • Bring everything you need (water, sunscreen, first aid) — there are limited facilities in the park.

Discover the tranquility and raw beauty of Victoria’s southwest coast in a more tranquil setting. Bay of Islands Coastal Park is your escape to awe in nature’s gallery.
