Aire River is one of the quieter corners of the Great Otway landscape, where forest, river, wetland and coast come together.
The river winds through a rich natural environment before meeting the Southern Ocean, creating a peaceful place to explore by foot, paddle or simply take in the scenery. The area is known for birdlife, river views and easy access to some of the Great Otway National Park’s most rewarding coastal and forest experiences.
The Great Ocean Walk passes through the Aire River area, making it an important stop for multi day walkers and a great base for shorter walks and day trips. Nearby Aire River East and Aire River West campgrounds offer places to stay close to the river, while the surrounding landscape provides opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife watching and exploring the coast.
Aire River is a good choice for visitors looking for a slower, more nature focused Great Ocean Road experience, with plenty of space to enjoy the landscape away from the busier visitor areas.
