Gibson Steps

Gibson Steps offers one of the most powerful views on the Great Ocean Road, placing visitors at the base of towering limestone cliffs with the Southern Ocean rolling in ahead.

When conditions allow, the steps lead down to a wild beach where the scale of this coastline becomes impossible to miss. From the sand, the cliffs rise high above and the offshore stacks known as Gog and Magog stand just beyond the shore.

It is a place to feel small in the best possible way. Waves, wind, rock and sky come together in a landscape that has been shaped over millions of years.

Located near the Twelve Apostles, Gibson Steps is a memorable stop for those wanting to experience the coastline from below the lookouts. Beach access may change depending on weather, tides and safety conditions, so always check signs before heading down.

Gibson Steps sits within Port Campbell National Park, part of an Aboriginal cultural landscape. GORCAPA acknowledges the deep and continuing connection Traditional Owners have to these lands and waters, and their ongoing role in caring for Country.
