Melba Gully Day Visitor Area

Melba-Gully.jpg

Often referred to as the Jewel of the Otways; Melba Gully Day Visitor Area sits within the Great Otway National Park and is one of Victoria’s richest temperate rainforest environments. With more than 2,000 mm of annual rainfall, it supports towering myrtle beeches, massive tree‑ferns, lush mosses and ferns.

Daytime visitors will enjoy the serene forest trails, while after dusk a magical glow emerges—hundreds of glow worms illuminating the dark banks of the forest.

Plan Your Visit

Getting there: From Apollo Bay or along the Great Ocean Road, turn into Melba Gully Road near Lavers Hill. The drive takes you deep into the cooler rainforest zone

Best time to visit: To see glow worms: arrive just after dusk, bring a torch (ideally with a red filter), and keep noise minimal.

Staying local: Book accommodation and campsites early in peak season.
