Temporary changes to Point Grey pier access from 16 February
Published on 12 February 2026
Construction works will commence at Point Grey, Lorne from Monday 16 February, marking the beginning of the next stage of the precinct redevelopment.
From early next week, contractors will be on site undertaking asbestos removal, salvaging materials for re-use and completing demolition works as part of site establishment.
To ensure public safety during this phase, the pier and a section of the Doug Stirling Track will be temporarily closed for approximately five weeks from Monday 16 February.
Fencing has been installed around the work zone and CCTV is in place as part of standard construction site safety requirements.
During this period, the site will be an active construction area, with heavy machinery, excavation works, material storage, site sheds and infrastructure installation occurring simultaneously. In accordance with Victorian workplace safety legislation, builders are required to secure construction sites to protect both workers and the public.
Public access to the pier is expected to be reinstated in approximately five weeks, subject to construction progress and weather conditions.
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority appreciate the community’s patience as works get underway and look forward to progressing this important project for Lorne.
