A message to our local communities and visitors, the beach between Bird Rock and Steps in Jan Juc is temporarily closed due to high risk cliffs.

The beach between Bird Rock and Steps in Jan Juc is temporarily closed following observations of several large cracks in the cliff top. In line with our Trigger Action Response Plan for cliffs The Surf Coast Walk (Bells Track) remains open as the crack is more than 5m from the path. Geotechnical experts are re-assessing the site next week to assess safety controls and next steps.

As always, we ask the community to be safe on the coast, follow signage and be guided by these simple messages when around cliffs:

  • Stay away  – from cliffs and caves
  • Stick to – established tracks
  • See the signs – and follow official guidance
  • Share the word – warn others

We also remind you that the beach at Demons Bluff, Anglesea remains closed due to cliff safety risks.

In February 2024, our drone monitoring program alerted us that a significant cliff fall has occurred in the closed area and that there are significant cracks that will result in more cliff falls in this area. We urge the public to stay outside the closed area for their safety.
