The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) has released a summary of community feedback on plans for new cabins at Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park.

GORCAPA plans to reimagine the southern section of the park to make it even more enjoyable and accessible for everyone, with a focus on inclusive design and improved connections to the adjoining foreshore.

Over a three-week period in February 2025, we engaged with users of the Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park, people with lived experience of disability and the broader community about the plans.

Community members participated in three walk and talk events at the caravan park and 26 survey responses were completed.

As part of the detailed design phase, we will also consider visual amenity, with options being explored to reduce the overall height of the cabins to enhance the appearance of the precinct.

Construction of the new cabins and boardwalk is scheduled to begin later this year, with bookings expected to open ahead of summer.

Quotes attributable to Director of Community, Corporate Affairs and Visitor Economy Andy Mathers:

“Thanks to everyone who shared their feedback on our plans to make the park more accessible for everyone.

“As someone who travels with family members for whom accessibility is front and centre of our travel choices, I know how important it is to find places that are welcoming and easy to navigate.

“We want to ensure more people can experience and enjoy the beauty of the coast.

“All revenue raised on the land we manage is reinvested back into the Great Ocean Road coast and parks, to ensure the special part of Victoria can be enjoyed now and for generations to come.”
