Ranger Diary by Conservation Ranger Inala Swart

We’ve teamed up with the Kennett Community Action Group to plant more than 500 trees and shrubs as part of ongoing works to restore the riparian zone of Kennett River.

The walk is beloved by the local community and has been in the spotlight recently due to increased tourism and pressures on local wildlife.

Our focus is on revegetating the riverbank to improve wildlife habitat, increase biodiversity and minimise the impact of visitors.

Saturday’s planting event was a tremendous success, bolstered by the enthusiasm of the dedicated locals who braved the elements to join our Conservation team.

Over the past few months, our Conservation team has been hard at work managing weeds and spreading mulch.

We undertook a cultural heritage induction and pre-dug holes for the plants to ensure everything was ready for a big day of planting.

Finally, getting native trees, shrubs, and grasses into the soil marks an exciting step in our joint rehabilitation efforts.

Our commitment doesn’t stop here; we’ll continue to monitor the site, tackle any weeds, and support the young plants as they establish themselves and thrive.

We’re very thankful to everyone who came along for all their help and to the Kennett River community for caring so much about this special place.
