Land Transfers

Having a standalone park manager dedicated to the coast and parks is unique and testament to the importance of this coastline to all Victorians. 

Since 1 December 2020 there have been a series of transfers of land management responsibility to the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority.

Great Otway National Park - July 2025

On 1 July, management responsibility for parts of the Great Otway National Park within the Great Ocean Road coast and parks area, including signature walks and higher visitation areas, has been transferred to GORCAPA.

Johanna Public Purposes Reserve - May 2025

We’ve been appointed as the land manager for the Johanna Public Purposes Reserve (tennis courts).

Gellibrand to Cape Otway – May 2025

We’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for land parcels around the Lorne Country Club, the Aire River Valley and Wildlife Reserve, Johanna Falls Scenic Reserve, and Latrobe Bushland Reserve.

Bellbrae – April 2025

We’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for land parcels along the Great Ocean Road.

Marine Parks - March 2025

We’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for the Marine National Parks and Marine Sanctuaries along the Great Ocean Road.

DEECA Tranche and Corangamite Shire Council – December 2024

As at 1 December 2024, the management responsibility of several land parcels located across Anglesea, Apollo Bay, Big Hill, Eastern View, Kennett River, Lorne, Moggs Creek, Separation Creek, Peterborough and Princetown were transferred to us from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

We have also been appointed to the Port Campbell Foreshore area.

Bay of Islands Coastal Park – November 2024

We’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for the Bay of Islands Coastal Park.

DEECA Tranche - August and September 2024

As at 1 August 2024, the management responsibility of several land parcels located across Torquay, Moggs Creek, Lorne, Separation Creek, Apollo Bay, Marengo and Port Campbell were transferred to us from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

Port Campbell National Park – August 2024

We’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for Port Campbell National Park.

Bells Beach - July 2024

We’re excited to share that we’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for Crown land at Bells Beach, near Torquay. The Bells Beach Surfing Recreation Reserve will transfer to us from the Surf Coast Shire Council, on 1 July 2024.

DEECA Tranche - June 2024

As at 20 June 2024, the management responsibility of several land parcels located across Anglesea, Lorne, Petticoact Creek, Marengo and Princetown were transferred to us from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

Port of Apollo Bay - July 2024

As at 1 July 2024, the management responsibility of the Port of Apollo Bay was transferred to us from the Colac Otway Shire.

Parks Victoria Tranche - July 2024

As at 1 July 2024, the management responsibility of several land parcels located across the Karaaf Wetlands, Anglesea Bushland Reserve, Marengo Nature Conservation Reserve, the Port of Port Campbell and Curdies Inlet were transferred to us from Parks Victoria.

Anglesea (Coogoorah Park) - June and July 2024

We’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for six land parcels, which includes both sides of the Anglesea River, north of the Great Ocean Road, and the large reserve area which makes up Coogoorah Park.

Princetown & Port Campbell - May 2024

We’re excited to share that we’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for Crown land in Princetown and Port Campbell, including the Princetown Recreation Reserve and the Port Campbell Recreation Reserve, currently managed by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

Lorne – May and June 2024

We’re excited to share that we’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for Crown land in Lorne, including the foreshore skate park, transferring from Surf Coast Shire, and forested areas between the Great Otway National Park and the Lorne township, transferring from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) as of 1 May 2024.

Split Point Lighthouse - Aireys Inlet - May 2024

We’re excited to share that we’ve been appointed to take on management responsibility for Crown land in the Split Point Lighthouse precinct, including the lighthouse, in Aireys Inlet as of 1 May 2024 following a transfer from Surf Coast Shire Council

Port Campbell - March 2024

Anglesea and Aireys Inlet - February 2024

We are excited to let you know that we have been appointed to take on management responsibility for several public land parcels in Anglesea and Aireys Inlet.

Apollo Bay – December 2023

The Authority has taken on management responsibilities for three additional land parcels in Apollo Bay. These include the Apollo Bay Airfield and the mouth of the Barham River.

Peterborough and Port Campbell – November-December 2023

The Authority is excited to begin managing, protecting and fostering resilience of land and sea along the western stretch of the Great Ocean Road, following land management transfers in Peterborough and Port Campbell.

DEECA tranche - April 2023

The Authority took on management responsibility for a further 1,304 hectares of Crown land as of 1 April 2023, including the first parcels of coastal water reserves.
