Trial reopening of fish cleaning tables in Apollo Bay

We are going to trial the reopening of the fish cleaning tables at Apollo Bay Harbour this week.

A temporary Seal Capture Zone was constructed to attempt to safely capture and assess the health and wellbeing of a seal in the area. The seal has been observed periodically onsite over the past three weeks.

We are now looking at other ways to safely conduct a health check on the seal with the Marine Response Unit.

We will continue to keep an eye on the visiting seal and if it continues to be fed illegally or shows signs of aggression toward site users, we may be required to close the tables again.

If the seal is present within 30 metres of the fish cleaning tables, the tables should not be used.

We thank the community for your patience during the temporary closure period.

If you observe any unsafe seal behaviour or illegal feeding, please contact the Conservation Regulator on 136 186
