Great Ocean Road gearing up for festive Summer

The Great Ocean Road experienced a resurgence in sporting, entertainment and community events last year, new data shows.
In 2021-22, the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority issued permits for more than 190 events on coastal Crown land between Torquay and Apollo Bay. In comparison, the authority permitted 41 events from when it was established in December 20202 to 30 June 2021.
The new statistics also show that, in 2021-22, the Authority issued and managed 28 leases, 12 general commercial licences and 15 tour operator licences.
The recovery to pre-pandemic levels of activity on the Great Ocean Road coast will ramp up in coming weeks and months with more than 20 cultural, social and sporting events in what is shaping up to be the busiest summer peak season in recent years.
The peak season kicks off with the Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest (November 23 to December 4), and highlights along the coast – both new and returning – will include the Apollo Bay Carnival, Great Victorian Bike Ride and the By the C and Summersalt music festivals.
The Authority supports the local economy and community by facilitating dozens of events each year on the coastal Crown land we manage, including markets, fun runs, surf schools, weddings and filming/photography. The Authority also manages leases for sporting organisations and businesses such as restaurants, cafes and kiosks.
All events held along the Great Ocean Road require a permit. This allows us to be certain we can accommodate rubbish collection, amenity needs and ensure ample time and space for each event.
All funds raised from our leases, licences and permits operations are reinvested into coastal reserves, infrastructure and caravan parks to ensure hew Great Ocean Road can be enjoyed now and for future generations to come.
