Summer program reflections with Angela

Summer program reflections wit -Angela

I love being on holidays with my family visiting new places, spending time out enjoying nature and creating new memories to look back on for years to come. This year, as a leader for our Summer program, it’s been a pleasure to be on the other side, making special memories with visiting families as we explored the wonderful flora and fauna along our coastline from the bush to the beach.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the frequent spotting of Tawny frogmouths perching high in branches of the Moonah woodland of the Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park and the regular appearance of a Great crested grebe ducking and diving for food in Spring Creek. A highlight for many of our Anglesea visitors during our rockpool rambles have been seeing the live prickly Sea urchins and the fantastically fast shore crabs darting about taking shelter under rock ledges. My favourite moments have been spying the Sand anemones sprinkled with gravel and pieces of broken shell and watching their tentacles retreat when lightly touched. These beautiful rockpools provide us with a high diversity of species in such small and accessible areas and offer our visitors a truly exciting experience.

Now that the holidays have come to an end, I’m looking forward to reconnecting with our local schools and introducing new school visitors to our amazing coastline and to continue supporting students in developing a greater understanding of the world around us.
