The Painkalac Dune Habitat Restoration Project will deliver improvements to the Painkalac Dune, a large and ecologically valuable dune and estuary system in Fairhaven.

Project objectives include:

• Removal of Tea Tree/Polygala/Sallow Wattle
• Management of Blackberry
• Revegetation in areas of monoculture
• Management of natural revegetation
• Fencing
• Fox control.

The project will include engagement with secondary school groups through our Environmental Education Programs, to assist with the application of brush matting and revegetation. This will provide students with an understanding of the importance of caring for dune systems, their flora, fauna and the wider coastal environment.

The Eastern View Dune Protection Project aims to protect and strengthen this fragile dune ecosystem, which is currently experiencing growing pressures from coastal and human induced erosion. 

This project will contribute significantly to addressing the threat of weeds within this coastal zone and will support long-term improvements towards a healthy and sustainable landscape.

• Increasing biodiversity
• Weed management
• Revegetation
• Erosion control.

The Barham River Dune Protection Project aims to protect this fragile dune ecosystem in the Apollo Bay area, which is currently experiencing growing pressures from coastal and human induced erosion.

Project objectives include:

• Fencing culturally sensitive sites to protect them from informal access and promote natural regeneration
• Fencing the dune area to slow erosion and promote natural regeneration
• Effectively eradicate mature woody weed species along the dune
• Control weed species to increase habitat value for the Hooded Plover.
