Work on a new beach access ramp at the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club is underway.
The new ramp has been shaped by consultation with the club and local community to improve access to the beach for lifesavers, pedestrians and emergency service vehicles.
The design is more robust for the dynamic coastal area and has footings fixed into the underlying rock that will allow waves to pass under and through the ramp decking during a storm or large swell.
The curved design of the ramp also means less impact on the dunes by using the current ramp footprint and curving away from the ocean to run parallel with the beach.
The ramp includes non-slip surfaces and a handrail to improve accessibility and safety for beach users.
Works will begin in the first week of August and be complete by October ahead of Summer.
The ramp area will be closed during construction, including some car parks, but the Surf Club will remain open throughout and there are alterative beach access points nearby.
