Future Vision Set for Kennett River Family Caravan Park
Published on 28 May 2025
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority Board has unanimously endorsed a new Master Plan for the Kennett River Family Caravan Park, setting a clear 10-year vision to guide its future.
In parallel, GORCAPA has also published the Kennett River Precinct Plan, which outlines broader infrastructure improvements across the township. Together, the two plans form an integrated blueprint to enhance public amenity, visitor experience, and environmental outcomes in the Kennett River area.
The final Master Plan was shaped by extensive community input, including contributions from 46 submissions. Another 95 submissions were received on the Draft Precinct Plan, while 65 participants joined online information sessions, and targeted discussions were held with licensed tour operators. The Master Plan outlines improvements that will deliver a thoughtfully upgraded, sustainable facility that celebrates the natural beauty of Kennett River. It will improve site functionality and safety, integrate with key infrastructure upgrades, and enhance the overall visitor experience.
Internal roads will be realigned to optimise traffic flow, and essential infrastructure improvements include an upgraded wastewater treatment plant.
Native landscaping, more green open spaces, and nature-based play areas will feature throughout the site, reinforcing a focus on sustainable tourism and biodiversity.
Key Park improvements include:
- Expanded shower and bathroom facilities, including four outdoor showers
- Nature-based play areas to encourage interaction with the environment
- A new central campground amenities block with a camp kitchen fronting the Great Ocean Road
- Outdoor dining areas, integrated with rainwater harvesting and greywater reuse system
- A mix of upgraded accommodation sites to suit a range of visitor needs
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the Master Plan, with a strong focus on water efficiency, environmental protection, and energy-smart infrastructure. Future improvements outlined in the Master Plan will be staged over the next decade and will be subject to funding availability and further feasibility assessments.
