Poombeeyt Koontapool – The Blowhole

breath-of-the-whale.jpg

This stunning lookout wraps around the Blowhole, a deep cutting in the land that fills with water from the Southern Ocean.

It is a sculptured viewing platform anchored into the edges of the blowhole, featuring barnacle themed seating and accessible paths.

The lookout resembles a breaching whale, with the roaring water symbolising its breathing.

The design has been led by the Eastern Maar community to ensure it reflects the values of this spot on Keerray Woorroong country.

Poombeeyt Koontapool means ‘Breath of the Whale’ in the Keerray Woorroong language.
