Parker Hill Campground

Located near Cape Otway at the southern end of Great Otway National Park, Parker Hill Campground is set on a forested hilltop overlooking the beach and the Parker River estuary.

The campground sits among stringybark forest, with shaded sites and access to nearby walking tracks and the coastline.

Campsites

  • Unpowered campsites
  • 20 sites, accommodating up to 6 people each
  • Suitable for tents only

Site suitability:

  • Sites 1–10: vehicle access
  • Sites 11–20: no vehicle access walk-in only 

Parking for walk-in sites is available on Parker Hill Track near the campground entrance.

Bookings and payment are required year-round.

  • There are no fireplaces. Fires are not permitted.

Accessibility

Accessible facilities are available within the day visitor area on the western side of the river.

  • No fires permitted
  • Fuel stoves or gas barbecues are recommended
  • Bring your own drinking water
  • No generators permitted 

Walking tracks

Access to sections of the Great Ocean Walk is available from the campground.

  • North: toward Parker Inlet
    • Access via approximately 300 steps to the beach at the mouth of the Parker River
  • South: toward Point Franklin
    • Clifftop walking with coastal views
    • Connects with Stringybark Track to form a 3 km loop

Swimming is not advised at nearby beaches due to unpatrolled conditions and strong currents.

Getting there

Parker Hill Campground is approximately a three-hour drive from Melbourne and around 15 minutes from Horden Vale.

Access routes:

  • From the east: via the Great Ocean Road toward Apollo Bay and Cape Otway
  • From Colac: via Lavers Hill
  • From the west: via Port Campbell

From the Great Ocean Road, turn onto Lighthouse Road, then Blanket Bay Road to reach Parker Hill Track. The track is accessible by 2WD.
