Johanna Beach Campground

Located just off the Great Ocean Road near Glenaire, Johanna Beach Campground is a drive-in site set behind coastal dunes and open grassland. It provides direct access to Johanna Beach, a well-known surf beach with more exposed conditions than other parts of the coast.

Campsites

25 Unpowered campsites, accommodating up to 6 people each, suitable for:

  • Tents
  • Camper trailers
  • Caravans

Sites are located across open grassed areas with some natural shelter from coastal vegetation.

  • Accessible toilet available
  • Basic campground amenities

What to expect

  • Open coastal setting with limited shelter from wind
  • Direct access to Johanna Beach (unpatrolled)
  • Popular location for experienced surfers and surf fishing
  • Close proximity to other coastal and inland park attractions
  • Humpback and Southern Right-whales can be spotted out to sea from July to September.

Accessibility

  • Accessibility varies across the campground due to natural terrain
  • Campsites are set on undulating grass, with some slopes
  • Parking is generally on grass adjacent to sites
  • No designated paths from campsites to toilets
  • Access via gravel service road and short compacted gravel path
  • 2 standard cubicles and 1 unisex accessible toilet:
    • Grab rail positioned on left side and behind toilets
    • Basin located outside cubicles and accessible for wheelchair users
    • Johanna Beach itself is not accessible by wheelchair from the campground. 

Need to know

  • No solid fuel fires permitted
  • Fuel stoves or gas barbecues are recommended
  • Bring your own drinking water
  • No generators permitted
  • Take all rubbish with you.

Johanna Beach Campground is located in a bushfire-prone area. Conditions can change quickly, so check weather, fire ratings and park updates before your visit.

Getting there

Johanna Beach Campground is approximately:

  • 3 hours from Melbourne via the inland route through Colac
  • 4 hours via the Great Ocean Road

Access is via the Great Ocean Road near Glenaire.
