In response to the community passion shown for the coastal environment in Apollo Bay, we have provided answers to frequently asked questions regarding the closure of an informal track on the golf course between Point Bunbury and Barham River in Apollo Bay.

The Authority took an evidence-based approach in formalising the existing beach access point by building a boardwalk and stairs from Barham River to Point Bunbury. The works were undertaken in September 2022 and permitted under an issued Marine and Coastal Act (MACA) consent.

The Authority missed an opportunity to engage community to inform them of the planning and execution of the project works. We acknowledge that we should have informed the local community of the rationale and evidence for constructing the beach access and subsequently closing a section of the informal walking track before commencing works.

We have developed the following frequently asked questions to inform the public of the range of information that guided this project. We will continue to update the following questions with information as needed. We also welcome feedback or requests for further information, which can be sent via info@greatoceanroadauthority.vic.gov.au.
