Repair works are advancing around the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club as the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority continues upgrades to improve safety and access ahead of the summer season.

Beach Stairs Repaired and Open

The beach access stairs east of the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club have been fully repaired and are now open. The stairs are a key entry point to Torquay’s surf beach and their reopening restores direct access to the shoreline for locals and visitors.

Ramp Replacement Underway

Work is also underway to replace the club’s damaged beach access ramp, with completion expected by mid December. Designed in collaboration with the surf club, the new ramp will improve safe, year-round access for patrol operations and vessel launching. The upgrade forms part of the first phase of GORCAPA’s broader seawall repair program.

Seawall Protection and 2026 Works

As part of this phase, crews are repositioning protective rock bags along sections of the seawall to stabilise the area ahead of major repairs set for 2026. Detailed design and planning for the larger restoration project are in progress, with construction scheduled to begin next year. GORCAPA will continue reinforcing exposed sections of the seawall as required, including placing sand ahead of significant storm events.

Quotes attributable to GORCAPA CEO, Christine Ferguson

“This first phase delivers a new ramp ahead of the peak season and restores important access down to the beach.”

“Major repair works on the rest of the seawall are scheduled for next year. This is a significant location for the local community and the many visitors who come to the area.”
