Volunteering

A family walking along the wet sand, between some rocks. There is some haze in the background but a lighthouse is still visible.

Our favorite backyard needs protecting

Volunteering is a rewarding way to give back to the community and coast and the perfect way to help protect our favourite backyard.

It is the backbone of our ongoing conservation work and with more than a dozen active volunteer groups along the coast, there is sure to be one near you.

Each group focuses on a specific coastal area and works closely with land managers to ensure the preservation of the natural environment.

Why should I get involved?

Environmental volunteering is:

  • Fun
  • Good for your health and fitness
  • A fantastic way to meet like-minded people
  • An opportunity to develop and build knowledge and skills
  • A hands-on way to make a real difference to our precious coastline
  • An excellent networking opportunity
  • Great to have on your resume.

Local volunteer groups welcome the extra hands and provide training for hands-on practical management strategies.

What kind of activities are involved?

It’s not all about weeding! Volunteer groups along our coast conduct a variety of roles in many different areas. Activities may include:

  • Revegetation
  • Developing facilities such as walking tracks
  • Preventing erosion
  • Weeding
  • Participating in informative walks
  • Monitoring native birds and animals
  • Attending meetings and social events
  • And much more.
How often do I need to participate?

The best part about volunteering is that even if you only have one day or a weekend to spare, volunteer groups would love to hear from you!

You can become a regular participant or help when and where you can – it’s up to you.
