Restoring Dieback-infected areas of bushland

Restoring Dieback infected areas of bushland

Earlier this week, several of our trained Conservation Officers attended a Phytophthora Dieback Field Hygiene Demonstration led by expert ecologist Dr Mark Garkaklis and hosted by the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority.

Dr Garkaklis demonstrated how to identify Dieback outbreaks at an affected site in Anglesea and highlighted key plant species impacted by this devastating plant disease.

The Conservation team were also educated on the hygiene process for both light vehicles and boots so that staff can be actively engaged in stopping the spread of dieback in bushlands we manage.

This knowledge will help inform our team’s work in restoring Dieback-infected areas of the bush. Thank you to the Corangamite CMA, the Wild Otways Initiative Team, Parks Victoria and DELWP BarwonSouthWest for allowing this session to take place.

This project is funded by the Australian Government.
