Chicks on the beach

Great news for Hooded Plover lovers! At two locations along our coast, we have had chicks hatch! Locations are the East end of Point Impossible and Marengo.

As exciting as this is time is for our new Hooded Plover parents, it is also the most frightening because their offspring are at their most vulnerable stage.

Please help us keep these precious chicks safe by:

• Steering clear of the exclusion zones set up around the nests. There are no dogs allowed at all. When you see the signage, you must turn around!

• Please do not approach the nest or fenced-off area. Instead, stick to the water's edge

• Disobeying the exclusion zone regulations can result in a hefty fine

A huge thank you from the entire Conservation Team to everyone who have looked out for these birds and shared the beach responsibly, allowing them to breed safely.

The hooded plover breeding season continues through to April, and a number of other pairs are continuing to nest, so please continue to be mindful on the beaches this summer!
