A little friend!

One of our Coastal Reserves Rangers, Ben Lewis, was busy clearing seaweed off the boat ramp at Lorne Pier when a local alerted him to an interesting discovery.

A local had spotted a little penguin who had been washed to shore by large tides.

Sadly, once these small animals are washed to shore, it is extremely difficult for them to return home to the sea due to exhaustion and the threat of predators.

Ben had the pleasure of taking this little fluff ball to the vet, where he could receive the care, he needed.

This story highlights the exciting and diverse range of jobs that our Coastal Reserves Team faces daily.

One day you implement pruning works or deliver erosion reports, and then you suddenly experience an encounter with beautiful wildlife!

In Ben’s words, “this job truly never stops giving”.
